How it started

Recipes from Jalisco

The kitchen runs on family recipes from Jalisco, on the Pacific side of Mexico, and it has since the doors opened in July 2021.

Mi Pueblo is the family’s first restaurant. That is a short history for a Mexican kitchen in Sonoma County, and it is why the menu has not drifted: what worked in the first month is still on it.

Two dishes have not changed at all since opening — the Molcajete and the Carne Azteca. If you want to know what the kitchen is actually about, order one of those.

Molcajete

On the menu unchanged since July 2021, served in the volcanic stone bowl it is named after.

Since day one

Carne Azteca

The other dish that has never come off the menu or been reworked.

Behind the bar

Margaritas and aguas frescas are mixed here, not poured out of a carton.

Made in house

Salsa, guacamole and aguas frescas

Four things are made on the premises rather than bought in: the salsas, the guacamole, the aguas frescas and the chile relleno.

The aguas frescas are the ones people are most surprised by — most Mexican restaurants in town pour them from a concentrate. Ask what fruit is on that day.

The salsas are made in house too, which is why the red and the green taste different from one week to the next depending on the chiles.

Aguas frescas

Jamaica, made here

Hibiscus steeped in house and served over ice. Most Mexican restaurants in town pour theirs from a concentrate; ask what fruit is on that day.

Made to order

The chile relleno

Stuffed peppers under salsa verde and cheese, made when you order rather than held on a steam table. It takes a few minutes longer than the rest of the plate.
